Short Round: Angus (1995) ***/*****

Holds up pretty well for a teen movie from the mid 90s, especially the performances and the soundtrack. Angus’ big moment is built to well and hits with force. The movie can drag a bit in the 2nd act though. I could have used some more humor and a little less Angus feeling sorry for himself. And Dawson is so cruel and one dimensional as the villain that it gets over the top and embarrassing. For a cookie cutter, inspirational, dorks rising up in high school movie, Angus can be pretty melodramatic. But how great is them using Mazzy Star for the big climactic dance? That’s some mid 90s goodness right there.
