Short Round: High Noon (1952) ****/*****

Now that’s how you build to an action sequence. The whole film is spent building the tension up to one moment, one big payoff, and then when it happens it really means something. High Noon is like Michael Bay Kryptonite. They simply do not make movies like this anymore. It has memorable characters, a high stakes story, great action staging and editing, and it works as social commentary on what it means to be a community. Good performances too. How about that creepy hotel manager?
